Considerations

Preparation & Timing

• Collection can be done at any time during the day.
• Ship samples within 24 hours of the final collection.

4 Weeks Before Collection

• Wait at least 4 weeks from colonoscopy or barium enema.

2-4 Weeks Before Collection

• Avoid taking antibiotics, antiparasitics, antifungals, or probiotic supplements (acidophilus, etc.); 28 days may be preferred after antibiotics have been utilized.

2 Days Before Collection

• Unless directed otherwise by your physician, discontinue aspirin and other NSAIDs (like ibuprofen), rectal suppositories, enemas, activated charcoal, bismuth, betaine HCl, digestive enzymes, antacids, laxatives, mineral oil, castor oil, and bentonite clay.

Before You Collect

1. Write your date of birth and the date of collection on the provided labels.
2. Place a completed label on each of the tubes.

Tube Collection

1. Put on the glove.
2. Collect the stool sample in the tray, making sure not to let any urine or toilet water get into the sample.
3. Use the scoop built into each tube lid to transfer the stool sample into the four large tubes until they reach the fill line.
4. Mix the sample with the liquid in the tubes until it's smooth. There is no liquid in the clear-top tube.
5. Screw the caps on tightly and shake for 30 seconds.

Orange-top Swab Collection

1. Use the swab to collect a sample of stool by inserting and twisting in the sample (do not scoop). Mash the coated swab against the inside of the small tube with orange top.
2. Leave the swab inside the tube and break the swab stick at the middle notch. Screw the cap on the tube with the swab inside.
3. Place all five tubes inside the biohazard bag and refrigerate them until ready to ship.
4. Unless you are completing the Microbiomix collection, dispose of any remaining stool in the toilet and throw away the collection tray and glove.

Microbiomix White-top Swab Collection

1. Open one of the tubes by twisting and pulling.
2. Lightly touch the round end of the swab to your stool sample. Do not overload, only a small discoloration is needed.
3. Put the swab inside the tube and close until you hear it click.
4. Repeat with the second tube and swab.
5. Place both tubes inside the biohazard bag.
6. Dispose of any remaining stool in the toilet and throw away the collection tray and glove.
